Dog Pound sweeps jamboree

Live Oak — The Suwannee Dog Pound pop warner football teams traveled to Starke last Saturday to compete in the Putnam Athletic League Jamboree at Bradford County High School.  Here is a recap of what happened.     

Tiny Mites 0, Gainesville Blue 0

The Tiny-Mite team played a hard fought defensive game. Coming up with a goal line stand late in the game. The team was led defensively by Terrance Williams, Dalton Hurst, and Landon Coleman, who made a couple of touchdown saving tackles.

Mitey Mites 14, Bradford Tornadoes 0

The Mitey-Mite team defensive unit played outstanding giving up only one first down. The offense also played well scoring twice. The team was led offensively by Tyree Taylor, who scored pair of touchdowns.

Jr. Pee Wee 0, Gainesville Orange 0

The Jr. Pee Wee  faced off against last year's champion Gainesville Orange. The Dog Pound came up strong defensively holding the gators to zero points and 35 yards total offense. The team was led by Joe ‘Lil Joe’ Combs, Darrien ‘Booshay’ McQuay (who had 8 tackles) and Zane ‘Z-Baby’ Stephens, who had 5 tackles and a interception.

Pee Wee 14, Santa Fe Raiders 0

The Pee Wee team also faced last year's champion the Sante Fe Raiders. Undermanned with only 14 players, the Dog Pound stood there ground. The defensive unit played great. Coming up with key fourth down stops, giving up one first down and zero points.

The offense stepped up as well. With everyone going both ways they executed very well. The offense scored on a beautiful double pass from Kristopher Allen to Jamrari Wheeler and then to Christian Wilkerson, who was alone for the touchdown.

Next up

All four teams will be home this Saturday at Paul Langford to open the season. The Tiny-Mites will play the Santa Fe Black at 9 a.m., the Mighty-Mites and Jr . Pee Wee will host Lake Region at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Pee Wee will host Santa Fe at 3 p.m.
