Years from now when Branford alumni gather for a reunion, chances are they will be talking about John Perry. Athletes like Perry don’t come around often at a small community like Branford.
Early on Perry dominated competition whether it was on the football field, basketball court or on the track.
Perry, who will head to Tusculum University, capped off quite a senior season this past year being named first team All-Area by the Gainesville Sun after accumulating 1,852 rushing yards, 313 receiving yards, 1,105 return yards and 33 touchdowns offense and 62 tackles on defense.
If that wasn’t enough, he was also named honorable mention All-Area by the Sun in basketball and qualified for state in three events in track.
Perry, the 2010 Suwannee Democrat Boys Track Athlete of the Year, finished sixth in the long jump, seventh in the triple jump and eleventh in the 100 dash at the Class 1A state meet.
After a historic final season, Perry was named the Boys Athlete of the Year as well.
