The Suwannee High School boys and girls track teams placed first in two recent invitationals.
Suwannee shined at the George Loper Invitational at Bradford High School in late February and cleaned up at the Suwannee Invitational on their home turf on Sunday, March 2.
At the Loper Invitational, Suwannee placed first, beating out all the other schools. Suwannee’s Logan Boss met national silver standard for her high jump. She also jumped five feet seven inches, breaking the school record and now her personal best.
In the Suwannee Invitational, SHS placed first beating out the other schools. SHS girls had 187 points to the second place, Newberry, 120.5. The SHS boys had 222.5 points to Baker County’s 143.5.
“I’m really excited about winning and I’m looking forward to seeing how far we’re going to go,” said girls coach Eric Rodriguez.
In the Loper Invitational, Daycia Bandy took first in the girls 100 meter dash; Boss took first in the girls 100 meter hurdles, the girls 300 meter hurdles and the girls high jump.
Raymond Gardner took first for the boys in the 800 meter run; Denzel Washington placed second for the boys in the boys 200 meter dash.
In the Suwannee Invitational, Boss took first in the 100 meter hurdles, the 300 meter hurdles, the high jump and the triple jump; Bandy took first in the 100 meter dash; Kyra McClendon took first in the 1,600 meter run; Jessie TenBroeck took first in the 200 meter dash; Amanda Glass took first in the long jump and the pole vault.
For the boys, Justin Martin took first in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash; Josh Wright took first in the 110 meter hurdles and first in the discus throw; Jason Brown took first in the 1,600 meter run and the 3,200 meter run; Kevarius Hayes took first in the high jump.
The girls took first in the 4x100 meter relay and the boys took first in the 4x400 relay and the 4x800 relay.
The teams both compete in the Santa Fe Invitational this Saturday.
