Live Oak — Ladies shutout Forrest


Suwannee wins 7-0

The Lady ‘Dogs traveled to Jacksonville on Wednesday, Nov. 28 to face district opponent Forrest High School. This was a one sided affair from the get go as Suwannee kept the ball down Forrest’s end of the field most of the night.


The Lady ‘Dogs had a total of 46 shots on goal and the scoring totals were as follows: Kelsey Parlato had one goal and one assist, Brooke Wainwright had one goal, Riley Walczak had two assists, captain Meghan Tyrell had one assist and Captain Grace Brett had a great night with five goals. Two of the goals were scored on penalty kicks and there were three yellow cards but all were procedural calls.



Lady ‘Dogs dominate Eastside


Suwannee wins 3-1


The Lady ‘Dogs soccer team faced Eastside of Gainesville at home on Monday night, Dec. 3 and they were prepared for Eastside wanting to avenge a loss and a tie on their field on Nov. 7. 


You can tell in a rematch which team has improved more than the other and on this night, Suwannee had the advantage there in both contests. 


The Lady Dogs varsity assistant coach Tommy Brett was covering for coach Doug Mabey in the JV game and they got going early with three goals in the first half. The second half was all defense and Suwannee was able to substitute and rest their starters. There were a total of 14 shots on goal and the scoring was as follows: Megan Letu had an assist, captain Shan Johnson had two goals and one assist, Yareli Olguin had one goal and Ayla Pidgeon had an assist. 


The varsity Lady ‘Dogs had a great night also and got their first goal 13 minutes into the game by Kelsey Parlato. Parlato got another goal just one minute later with an assist by Broke Wainwright. The score at the half was 2-1 but Suwannee took control in the second half with a goal at the 24 minute mark by Brooke Wainwright and the assist by captain Grace Brett.

Suwannee won it 3-1.


The Varsity team’s victory was dampened by an injury to captain Leigh Durden which was later diagnosed as a mild concussion and she has been game to game.



Ladies face Atlantic Coast


JV ends in tie, varsity loses 


The Suwannee High School Lady Bulldog soccer team played host to district opponents, the Stingrays from Atlantic Coast of Jacksonville on Tuesday night, Dec. 14. This is the matchup that Suwannee had been preparing for all season because it was sure to be a battle all night. The first game was shortened to 30 minute half’s due to Atlantic Coast’s late arrival. 


The JV teams played a defensive contest but there was some excitement midway through the first half. Holding mid, Megan Letu, booted a perfectly placed shot from about 35 yards out into the top midsection of the net for the first goal of the game.  


The defensive battle continued until there were two minutes left in the game and the defense was weary. Atlantic Coast pushed the ball forward, got around the Suwannee defense and got a clean shot on goal and it went in. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.


The varsity ladies had a bigger hurdle to jump in their contest as the Stingrays varsity team has a reputation of playing all district opponents tough and they have continued that this season against other district teams. 
This game also started off as a defensive battle but 25 minutes in to the game, Atlantic Coast struck first with a goal that was chipped in over the keeper’s head. The second half continued like the first but the Stingrays struck again at the 24 minute mark with their second goal and scored two more goals over the next 10 minutes and the final score was 4-0, Atlantic Coast.



Girls fall to Bishop Kenny


Score, 5-0


Both the Suwannee High School JV an varsity Lady Bulldog soccer team had a game scheduled against Bishop Kenny in Jacksonville Wednesday, Dec. 12, but due to heavy rain, the JV game was canceled and the varsity game was played on Thursday, Dec. 13. 


This was forecast to be the Lady ‘Dogs toughest game of the year so far and it turned out that way. Bishop Kenny pressed all game long and dominated the ball with about 25 shots on the Suwannee net. Suwannee only got three shots on goal and the game ended in a 5-0 win for Bishop Kenny.



Lady ‘Dogs defeat Taylor County 


Score, 3-1


Both Suwannee High School soccer teams were at home against Taylor County on Friday night, Dec. 14. This match up was sure to be an aggressive one based on past meetings and both games lived up to the advance billing. 


In the JV. game, Suwannee took a 2-0 lead into the half and even though it got aggressive at times, Suwannee handled themselves well. Taylor County scored their only goal, 10 minutes into the second half making the game 2-1, but Suwannee doubled its effort and scored three more for a final score of 5-1. The JV team had 25 shots on goal and the scoring was by Emily Watson for her first of the season. Patrica Jurado had two goals, Kirsten Lee had her first goal of the season and an assist, and Megan Letu finished out the scoring with about 10 seconds left in the game. Shan Johnson had an assist and the JV team played the second half with out two of their captains and their best stopper. 


The varsity contest was much more physical and Taylor County drew first blood with a goal 19 minutes into the first half for a 1-0 lead at the half. Suwannee came back from the break with determination and scored their first goal just over six minutes gone in the second half with a goal over the keeper's head by captain Grace Brett and an assist by Kayla Watson. The tough play continued and it looked like it was going to be another tie for Suwannee. Both teams fought hard and there was plenty of physical play but with exactly two minutes left in the game, Suwannee scored another goal by Riley Walczak and an assist by Kelsey Parlato. Suwannee's defense stepped it up a notch and cleared the ball several times and the last time was enough to set a shot up in front of Taylor County’s net. With just 10 seconds left in the game, Kelsey Parlato scored her second goal for a Suwannee win, 3-1.






Ladies fall to PK Yonge 


Score, 1-0


The Suwannee High School Lady Bulldog varsity soccer team traveled to Gainesville on Monday, Dec. 17 to face PK Yonge. On paper these two teams looked evenly matched and that's exactly the way the entire game went. 


PK Yonge lived up to their school name by scoring the only goal of the game on a penalty kick (PK) awarded to them by the referee because of a hand ball inside the box. If it were not for that gift, the game could have ended in a tie for Suwannee. The rest of the game was a defensive battle and both teams played hard. 
Suwannee's record as of this game was 9-5-2 and PK Yonge's was 11-4-1. 


Suwannee’s next game is on Thursday against tough Ridgeview at Langford Stadium and wa their last home game of the regular season.
