The bulldogs took home a big win in the opening games of the new 2005-06 basketball season. Suwannee hosted a Tip-Off Classic between Lafayette, Jefferson, Hamilton and Suwannee County schools. The Dogs took home the trophy with Hamilton second, Jefferson third and Lafayette County fourth.
The Dogs won the first game of the two game series Thursday, Nov. 17 over Jefferson 73-61. they advanced the championship game against Hamilton County and beat Hamilton in a close match 69-58.
Hamilton fought hard taking an early lead 17-15. Suwannee had the height advantage and it began to show as Duke Doe, playing his old teammates, scored the tying point in the second quarter at 24-24. The Dogs led 30-26 at the half.
But Hamilton refused to give up and came back to tie the game at 43 going into the fourth period. Suwannee charged ahead in the fourth. The final score was 69-58.
Jevon Smith was named game MVP and the two All-Tournament players were Suwannee's Mario Hawthorne and Nate Herring.
