The Suwannee Middle School wrestling team traveled to Valdosta, Nov. 15 to open its competition schedule. After two short weeks of practice, the Bullpup wrestlers came away with a strong showing at the 13-team tournament. Suwannee placed a total of six wrestlers in the top four of their respective weight classes.
Coming away with a perfect 4-0 record and a first place finish was Jacob Wainwright. Wainwright dominated the competition by pinning each of his opponents.
Placing third for Suwannee was Shawn Brown (127 lbs.), 4-1, Timothy Branham (137 lbs.), 4-1, Logan Fletcher (147 lbs.), 4-2 and Jerry Willis (202 lbs.), 4-1. Hunter Cason rounded out the Suwannee placers with a hard fought fourth place finish with a 4-2 overall record in the 92 pound weight class.
Also receiving victories on the day for Suwannee was Ricky Lanier, 4-2, Darius Price-Jones, 2-2, Allen Foster, 2-2, DeWitt Gross, 1-1, Mickey Murray, 2-2, Dallas Ogburn, 1-2, Todd Gardner, 1-2 and Michael Ware, 1-2.
