Suwannee outplays Newberry
Ladies look to weekend tournament

The Suwannee High School girls softball team outplayed Newberry March 2, 17-3. Junior Maegan Olson led the team 3-3, hitting with a double and a home run.
On Feb. 26, the girls hosted Santa Fe. The Bulldogs were shut out 4-0.
"We only had one hit in the game," said coach Tommy Chambers. "Santa Fe is really the best team at this point in the the district."
Before playing Santa Fe, the girls beat Hamilton 11-1, Feb. 23. Sophomore Tinsley Smith threw one hitter while striking out seven.
On Feb. 19, Suwannee lost a hard fought game at home to Ft. White, 7-5. Freshman Jessie Tenbroeck went 2-3 and freshmen Destiny Perrin went 3-4 with two RBIs.
Suwannee plays Madison on their field tomorrow night at 6 p.m. before traveling to Alachua for the Santa Fe Tournament. The Lady 'Dogs will then return home for two key district games on March 16 against Newberry and March 19 against Williston.

Bowler of the Week - July 30, 2010
In the 9 Pin No Tap league, Tiffany Smith bowled 133 pins over her average for a 568 series making her Thunder Alley Bowler of the Week. I don't know of any other bowler that wanted to be Bowler of the Week more than Tiffany.
Dave Ward led the league with a 725 series followed by Lorrie Geiger with a 702 and Chris Rathbun with a 682. Thure Olson led the Men's league with a 580 series followed by Roger Rathbun with 510 and Jon Cadle with 494. -
Old Oaken Bucket rivalry taking center stage
LAKE CITY-Entering its 21st year (20th statewide) the Beef O‘ Brady’s High School Football Scoreboard Show is celebrating a milestone this season.
As a thank you to all of his loyal supporters, host Steve Berrey is going back to some of his favorite stops on the statewide tour. Among the 11 scheduled 2010 stops is the Old Oaken Bucket rivalry November 12 between Suwannee and host Columbia.
It’s one of the state’s oldest rivalries and I can’t go to it at Suwannee (no Beef O Brady’s there),” Berrey said. “It’s been a while since I have been there (three years), so I wanted to say thank your for 20 years. I have been there once but never been to the Old Oaken Bucket game, but I’m really looking forward to it.” -
Back on the air
LIVE OAK-Since 1958, fans have been tuning into 98.1 FM every Friday night to listen to Suwannee High football games. And for the the 52nd consecutive year, the Big 98 will once again serve local fans with coverage of football.
After various talks and discussions between the school, the school board and the station, 98.1 was given the rights to air the games again for the upcoming season.
However things could be changing at the conclusion of the upcoming season. -
Storm off to a good start
ORLANDO-The Suwannee Storm has been in Orlando since last weekend competing in the YBOA National tournament. Storm sponsor Tracie Daniels sent me an update Wednesday with how the team is doing.
According to Tracie, the team arrived on Sunday and officially registered. There are eight 16-under Division 2 teams in attendance, all from the United States except one team from Mexico. -

Dog Pound camp over
The Third Annual Dog Pound Football camp concluded with 65 kids coming out and as well as 12 local coaches. Bryce Johnson along with Eric Ivory, Dewayne Charlton, Ron Hamilton and Jerry Alexander helped put on the camp.

From the sideline: No one left behind
While thousands of sports writers from across the country converged in Hoover, Alabama to cover the annual SEC Media Days, a few us were in Gainesville to meet area high school football coaches in the Third Annual Gainesville Sun Media Days.
From Bronson to Live Oak, coaches from approximately 36 schools in the Gainesville Sun coverage area were invited to attend and speak to the media about their programs. -
Tillman mowing them down
OREM, UTAH-Days after getting drafted in the second round and pick No. 81 overall, Daniel Tillman was on a plane and headed for Orem, Utah.
In his short time with the Orem Owls in the Low A Rookie Advanced League affiliate of the Anaheim Angels, Tillman is mowing down his competition.
Through Sunday, Tillman is 2-0 overall with 6 saves with a 1.29 ERA in 11 appearances. In fourteen innings, he has allowed nine hits, two earned runs, one walk and no home runs while striking out twenty and holding opponents to a .184 batting average. -
Bowler of the Week - July 23, 2010
In the Men's League Jason Worth led the league with a 580 series. 106 Pins over his average making him Thunder Alley Bowler of the Week.
Roger Rathbun came in second with 572 and Dave Ward came in third with 524. -
One in a million
Years from now when Branford alumni gather for a reunion, chances are they will be talking about John Perry. Athletes like Perry don’t come around often at a small community like Branford.
Early on Perry dominated competition whether it was on the football field, basketball court or on the track.
Perry, who will head to Tusculum University, capped off quite a senior season this past year being named first team All-Area by the Gainesville Sun after accumulating 1,852 rushing yards, 313 receiving yards, 1,105 return yards and 33 touchdowns offense and 62 tackles on defense. - More Suwannee Sports Headlines
