The Suwannee High School Hall of Fame is proud to announce its 2010 inductees. Harry Taylor, Jim Daniels and Matt Jackson will be introduced Friday night.
Taylor earned nine varsity letters while at Suwannee 3 each in football,track and baseball. He was named to the all state team in both football and baseball his senior year in 1964. He was part of the 1962 undefeated football team that outscored its opponents 287 to 46. After graduation he played semi pro football for the Jacksonville Bears and Robins as well as baseball for the Valdosta Red Sox. He was good enough to get a try out with the Philadelphia Phillies. Harry also played professional fast pitch softball in Tennessee and Kentucky. He may best remembered however for his booming kicks. He converted 28 of 31 point after tries, sailing kicks across Parshley Street.
Jim Daniels is a 1966 graduate of Suwannee High, where he played football and ran track. Jim entered the United States Army in 1967 and distinguished himself by earning two Bronze Stars in Vietnam. After his service commitment Jim attended and graduated from Gupton Jones college of mortuary science. He was named Suwannee County Citizen of the Year in 2005. Jim is being inducted for his outstanding service to the Suwannee Quarterback Club. Jim has been a member for almost 20 years and served as President for 10 years. His hard work and dedication has raised thousands of dollars for the club and his leadership has made the Quarterback Club one of the best booster clubs in Florida.
Matt Jackson is one of the last Suwannee football players to play in a state championship team in 1999. Matt also lettered in track, baseball,weightlifting and basketball during his time at Suwannee. He is most recognized for his football achievements. He was 1st team all state as a wide receiver, ranked the 9th best cornerback in the nation by Super Prep, named to the Super 11 and Super 24 by the Times Union, a USA All-American, and FHSAA scholar athlete award winner. He is the only Bulldog to intercept four passes in a half. Jackson also managed to win two district championships in the shot put and was a district champion in the 100 meter dash. Matt went on to the university of Florida where he played in the Sugar, Orange and two Outback bowls. Matt played arena ball after graduation for the Evansville Blue Cats, South Georgia Wild Cats, Macon Knights and Georgia Force before calling it a career.
