‘Dogs defeat Wakulla in district bout

Taylor and Ross lead team to win

Live Oak — On Dec. 21 the Suwannee High School varsity boys basketball team clenched its first district win against the Wakulla War Eagles. The final score was 74-49.
The team was led by senior guards Jimmie Taylor III and Deangelo Ross. The game was close for the first two quarters and went into halftime with Suwannee up by only four points (26-22). However, the ‘Dogs dominated the third quarter, putting 29 points on the board to pull away from the War Eagles.

Taylor ended the game with a triple-double performance of 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists; Ross netted seven, three-pointers and two of three free throws to lead the team in scoring with 23 points.

Sophomore Kevarrius Hayes again led the team rebounding and inside defensive blocks with 19 and five, respectively.

The win puts the ‘Dogs in second place in 5A District 2 after the one-point loss to Tallahassee Rickards several weeks ago. Suwannee will face Rickards at home in a much anticipated rematch on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
