Nov 29 at Suwannee High School gym, the Suwannee boys JV basketball team lost by one point to Columbia. It was still an evening to remember for basketball fans. It was intense and for the full duration, could have been anyone’s game.
Just a few seconds in, the Tigers stole the ball from the ‘Dogs and did a layup for two. A few seconds later, the ‘Dogs made a 3-pointer and along with a foul shot brought the score to 4-2 ‘Dogs within the first minute of play. For the first quarter overall, the ‘Dogs seemed slightly off in their game as the Tigers had taken the lead with the score being 22-6. With just 47 seconds left, the ‘Dogs started cranking it up and brought the score up to 22-10 Tigers and the quarter ended.
Second quarter began and the ‘Dogs made eight points in under two minutes of play and were able to keep the Tigers from scoring when they got the ball bringing the score to 22-18 with Tigers ahead by only four. The ‘Dogs kept fighting and at three minutes and 10 seconds left in the first half, the ‘Dogs and Tigers had a tied score of 26-26. The ‘Dogs were able to pull ahead with the score 29-26 ‘Dogs. With under a minute to go in the first half, Suwannee scored again bringing it to 31-26 ‘Dogs. The Tigers got a foul shot making the score 31-27, but with 18 seconds to go in the half, #13, Tevin Ford made a 3-pointer, so at the halftime buzzer, the score was 34-27 ‘Dogs.
In the third quarter, the Tigers fought hard to take the lead away from the ‘Dogs and with five minutes and 20 seconds left in the quarter, the score was 39-38 with ‘Dogs leading by only one. The Tigers turned up the heat some more and managed to pull ahead bringing the score to 46-42 Tigers. With about two minutes to go in the third quarter, ‘Dogs scored two points and #31 Aaron McAllister got to take a foul shot bringing the score to 46-45 Tigers with a one point lead.
The fourth quarter, the intensity level was growing fast. The Tigers lost their lead only for a few seconds time before they were able to gain it back with a 51-47 lead. With six minutes and 20 seconds to go in the game, both teams were playing all out. Five minutes left and the score was 53-49 with Tigers still on top. The Tigers managed to snag another 3-pointer bringing it to 56-49. The ‘Dogs made two, but Tigers made yet another 3-pointer. Then the score was 59-51 Tigers. With about four minutes to go, # 23 Cari Blalock made a 3-pointer bringing the score to 59-54 and at the three minute mark, # 21 Tyrone Ivey nailed a 3-pointer bringing the score to 59-57 with Tigers in lead by two. With less than two minutes for the final buzzer, the Tigers managed to get another two points, but then the ‘Dogs were able to score two points as well bringing it to 61-59 Tigers. With less than a minute in the game, both the Tigers and the ‘Dogs scored bringing the final score to 63-62 with Tigers winning.
