Rant & Rave - Sept. 7, 2012

Live Oak — Re: folks leaving Live Oak and foreigners, being a South FL transplant maybe I'm more accustomed to diversity, however before criticizing someone else's yard you might want to clean your own. This area has higher than usual meth usage, and the amount of "locals" covered in jailhouse tattoos and missing teeth (a sign of meth use) is mind-blowing for such a small town.

This is an opinion column & this is an opinion! In a county, actually even the whole country, we have people in office 20-40 yrs. This is the cause of many problems we face. Locally the prop. appr. hasn't changed since the year I graduated high school & I'm fast heading to 60!  With grand jury investigations, constant lawsuits, poor services & management, voters need to forget party affiliation & especially incumbents. Take a good look at new, younger folks that are not veterans of this incompetent & corrupt machine that is choking the life out of decent residents. Don't replace them with more of the same, or part timers.

Thanks for all the help from Suwannee County Health Dept., helping us with our test kits and sending our water off to be tested. Thank you Michael for all your extra help, patience, time and answering all of our questions. I think we all feel better having our water tested and making sure our water is safe to drink. Thanks also to Paul at Columbia County Health Dept. for your help also for making us feel like we are not just a number and taking the extra time to call us with your concerns about our water. I think sometimes we don’t thank our heroes enough. They worked extra hours to make us feel better about our drinking water. Thank you Salvation Army workers for putting all those bottles of drinking water in our cars. We will never take our clean drinking water for granted again.

I’m calling about the county commission roundup that was in the Suwannee Democrat on Friday in reference to the public safety director position and fire chief being held by director James Sommers at the present time. I think it’s a great idea if the county commission would look in house first before they take some outsider like they did the last time. I think he’s an asset to the community and he’s dedicated his life to help the welfare and the citizens of Suwannee County for the past 13 years. I believe it would be a good choice and I believe they should hire within the department.

After a hundred years or more its time to move Live Oak off that sink hole its built on. New government offices should be built out near interstate 10. there is plenty of land out there some of it owned by the county. New schools should be built out by the new middle school on 129. Yes, people will complain about historic Live Oak and soon they may be complaining about historic Live Oak being in the bottom of a big sink hole. Its time to move away from the old into the new and let Live Oak grow along 129.

Here is a Rant. When is the county going to get out and cut the grass along county rd 49?

Each and every candidate running for State Attorney should have kept his/her opinion regarding the current State Attorney to him/herself.  I can not support such behavior and will not vote for him/her.  May God have mercy on the court!

Would you please explain to me why Suwannee High School's web site is not up to date for the 2012-2013 school year. The sports schedules are from last year. The schlorship information for seniors has information on it from 2009 and 2010. How about updating the information for the current year.

OK one more time, is the county ever going to mow the easement areas, not to mention cleaning all the debris collected in them after the flood !!

****

Mow the easements and clean the drainage areas !! Come on !!

This week for the first time I attended a meeting of the Suwannee County Board of County Commissioners. Thank you to the chairman for his capability in leading the meeting and for his demeanor. However, for several other commissioners I would say has no one ever taught you any manners. Why must you be so rude to your own attorney, to each other, and especially to people in the audience. What has happened to civility? What has happened to the skill of being able to disagree without being disagreeable. What has happened to men being gentleman? What has happened to southern gentleman, southern hospitality? Suwannee County deserves better.
