The attorney for the 16-year-old facing charges as an adult for first degree murder of Charles David Napier received a continuance in the trial.
Anthony Michael Ortiz, 16, is facing charges of first degree murder while armed, home invasion robbery while armed with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.
According to Felony Clerk Trudy Meeks, Ortiz’s attorney, Regional Counsel Cliff Wilson, obtained a continuance with the pre-trial slated for Nov. 8. Wilson is also asking that the trial term be Jan. 28-31, 2013.
The trial was tentatively set for Oct. 22-26.
According to local authorities, Ortiz admitted to murdering Napier, 49, at his home at 6074 127th Place in Suwannee County on April 28 of this year. The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office stated that Napier was shot nine times with a .40 caliber handgun. The incident took place at about 7 p.m.
