Live Oak —
Suwannee County Sheriff Tony Cameron said this morning that the search continues for Kamrie Cherai Mitchell who was reported missing on Sunday, Sept. 2 and whose car was found submerged in floodwaters on 184th Street near the Columbia County line Wednesday.
It was previously reported that Mitchell was reported missing by family on Wednesday, the same day her car was found. However, Cameron said today that family reported her missing around 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2. The family has not heard from her since Aug. 25.
Mitchell’s white four-door 1992 Pontiac Grand Am was found submerged in floodwaters on 184th Street, about halfway between Wellborn and the Ranchette’s area in eastern Suwannee County, near the Columbia County line Wednesday. Part of the road is still submerged in water that came from Tropical Storm Debby in late June.
Stefani Mitchell, mother of Kamrie Mitchell, told the Democrat that her daughter lived in Lake City, but would occasionally stay with her father who lives in southern Suwannee County.
Cameron said the search continues near where her car was found.
“We got investigators out,” said Cameron. “I don’t really think she’s out here where we’ve been searching.”
Cameron said they have thoroughly searched the area around where the car was found which includes searches by sky, the SCSO mounted posse and ATV.
“She could be in the hospital, she could be with friends. We just don’t know at this time,” said Cameron.
He said that Kamrie Mitchell has many friends in this part of the state and investigators are talking to each one that they learn of. He said when they talk to one, they get names of other friends that they can talk with.
“We will just keep checking until we find something out,” said Cameron.
Cameron said that through their interviews they are learning a lot of who Kamrie Mitchell is personally.
The family of Kamrie Mitchell said this morning that they are happy that the news and photo of their missing loved one is circulating in the media and through social media and wants to thank those that are helping.
“We’re hoping to find someone who knows something,” said Talesha Longstaff, cousin of Kamrie Mitchell and one of the family spokespersons.
Longstaff put together a missing persons poster with information on Kamrie Mitchell with three photos.
Longstaff said the family wants to thank all those that have searched and are continuing to search for Kamrie Mitchell. She said she also wants to thank the person that brought lunch for those that searched.
