Live Oak — The Scarecrow festival is coming to Live Oak again this year and is geared to be an exciting event for the whole family.
This year, the festival will include more activities for children than in years past. Children will be able to participate in building a scarecrow, face painting, an obstacle course, a quarterback blitz and a floating ball shoot-out. All activities for the children are free of charge.
The Garden Club will get things started on Saturday, October 21, with their popular pancake breakfast and plant sale, along with many other activities.
On Saturday, October 27, Festivities will begin at 8 a.m. in downtown Live Oak at Millennum Park.
The Suwannee Democrat is once again sponsoring Puttin’ On The Dog, a pet costume contest. Dress up your friend and yourself for a chance to win a prize. The contest begins at 11 a.m. at Millennium Park. Registration is at 10 a.m. Pick up your registration form at the Democrat offices at 211 East Howard Street in Live Oak, or you can register the morning of the contest.
The Woman’s Club will once again hold their chili cook-off at Veteran’s Park with cooking beginning at 10 a.m., and the dishes judged at 11 a.m.
“The Scarecrow Festival is aimed at Families, good fun entertainment for the entire family. We have people come from Tallahassee with their children because the children's activities are free, and there are lots of them,” said Jeanne d'Eauédè with the Live Oak Partnership. “All of the other festivals are focused on business and the Partnership feels this festival raises awareness that Suwannee County is a family oriented community, a place that values families.”
The event is a combined effort of several local businesses and groups in conjunction with the Live Oak Partnership.
