The time change in November signals changes in landscape irrigation measures within the Suwannee River Water Management District (District). With the start of Standard Time on Sunday, Nov. 4, lawn and landscape irrigation is limited to one day per week for residents and others within the District’s 15-county region.
The District’s year-round landscape irrigation measures limit watering to two days per week during Daylight Saving Time and once weekly during Standard Time. Residents may choose which days to water. However, irrigation should not occur between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and users should water only as much as their landscape needs.
The limits on landscape irrigation are part of an ongoing effort to help address water needs within the District. The measures apply to residential landscaping, public or commercial recreation areas, and public and commercial businesses that aren’t regulated by a District-issued permit.
The limits apply to those who receive water from utilities, private wells, or surface water. However, they do not apply to users of reclaimed water or water captured in rain barrels.
“The time change presents a great opportunity to conserve water since in the cooler months grasses and landscapes need to be watered less frequently,” said District Executive Director Ann Shortelle. “We encourage the public to take advantage of this opportunity and water only when necessary.”
