Marian Denise Keel-Staten

Marian Denise Keel-Staten of Tampa, Fla. passed away at the James A. Haley VA Hospital on March 13, 2013. She was born Aug. 25, 1969 in Live Oak, Fla. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Staten; mother Cheryl Keel; father Edward Keel; sister Lesley Keel-Butler, and niece Jocelyn Butler.
She graduated from Suwannee High School in 1988. She served in the U.S. Army from 1988-1996. She retired from the James A. Haley VA Hospital in 2009.
The wake will be held on March 22, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, Fla. Funeral services will be held March 23, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Faith Temple MB Church, 2916 Orient Road, Tampa, Fla.

Helen Shepard, 85, Lake City, Fla. passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 in the Avalon Healthcare and Rehab center, Lake City, Fla. The Donaldsonville, South Carolina native was an owner/operator of her own restaurant, loved farming, animals and was a member of Beth Haven Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shepard is survived by one son: Roger Shepard (Connie) O’Brien, Fla.; grandchildren: Daniel Shepard, Lake City, Fla., Shelly (Kyle) Stout, Gainesville, Fla., Tracie (Dan) Sax, Fleming Island, Fla.; step-grandchildren: Ronald (Jeannie) Young, Branford, Fla., Ryan (Stacy) Young, Branford, Fla.; great-grandchildren: Franklin and Christian Shepard, Lake City, Fla., Christopher, Hannah, Barrett, and Braxton Young, Branford, Fla.; numerous other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband: Benjamin Oliver Shepard and her parents: Steve and Annie Mae Bagwell.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20 at Oak Grove Cemetery with Mr. Randy Sheppard officiating. In lieu of flowers family asks donations be made to Haven Hospice in Lake City 6037 West US Hwy 90 Lake City, Fla. 32055.

Robyn Gardner Bender

Robyn Gardner Bender, wife of Randolph Earl (Rick) Bender, Jr. died Friday evening, March 15, 2013 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. Robyn was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 18, 1953 to Billy and Mattie Coffee Gardner. She grew up at the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, Fla. She graduated from Suwannee High School in 1971 and enrolled in Aurora College in Aurora, Illinois that fall. While at Aurora she spent a short term in Cultural Studies in England. Prior to her Senior year she chose to remain in Live Oak and pursue a career as a licensed Lab and X-ray Technologist at Santa Fe Community College. She worked nights and went to classes during the days. 
Somehow Robyn found time to become romantically involved with Rick Bender who had graduated from Suwannee High School a couple of years earlier and spent several years in the U.S. Air Force. They were married April 21, 1979. During the following years their work took them to Live Oak, Valdosta, High Springs and Gainesville. Robyn especially enjoyed her years at Shands Live Oak Hospital and Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville. Unfortunately, Robyn’s health deteriorated significantly over the years and she had to go on disability in 2001.
Robyn is survived by her husband , Rick for 33 years, a brother Kim Wagstaff, Gastonia, N.C., two sisters: Pam Wagstaff Bruce of Wilmington, N. C. And Teresa Kennet Estep of Concord, N.C.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Bixler Memorial Chapel at the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, Fla. with Rev. Pomeroy Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Bixler Memorial Garden East Cemetery.

M. Ruth Whatley

M. Ruth Whatley, 70, of Jasper Fla. passed away on March 13, 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Whatley. She is survived by her sons Bryan Whatley of Crystal River and Charles Whatley of Jasper and 5 Grandchildren: Kayla, David, Keith, Michelle and Austin Whatley. The family will be accepting floral gifts Thursday through Saturday. 
A memorial service will be held Saturday March 23, 3 p.m. at her residence, 7788 U.S Highway 129 South, Jasper, Fla. 32052. A celebration of her life including dinner will follow the service. Guests are asked to bring a covered dish; the bar-b-que will be provided.
