Rant and Rave - April 13

April 13, 2012 Submitted Suwannee Democrat

Live Oak — In regards to the rant about the county vehicles not having lights or tags. I would think they could at least comply with the regulations others have to abide by since its free for them to get a tag and we are paying for the lights to be fixed by tax dollars. they also get to use golf carts, atv's and utv;s which law abiding citezents get ticketed for. Discrimination by goverment against the peole who pay the bills. JMHO

Can anyone tell me why Live Oak and Branford are allowed to have golf carts on the roads when the rest of the county is restricted? I see ATV's on the roadsides being used by cleanup crews and city workers LSV's. The state allows for the use of these by law but the county only allows for a select few to use them. How can this be fair?

A huge thanks to all the people involved in seniors day at the fair. The food was great and the vendors who were there were appreciated also. It means a lot to us to get out and mingle and have a good time.

This is in response to the person complaining about the county trailer with no tag. Why would anyone with any common sense want to waste money putting a taxpayer owned tag on a taxpayer owned trailer pulled by a taxpayer owned truck driven by a taxpayer paid employee of a taxing authority? Just more wasted tax money.

It seems to me that the bars around live oak would quit letting underage people in the sign on the door says no one under 21 allowed yet everytime i go into one there are at leasr 5 or 6 people that shouldn't even be there drinking in the parking lots-how does this keep on continuing?

I'm hoping you Suwannee Countians have public safety scanners. If not, you need to get some! I'd like to know why our volunteers aren't getting paged out anymore? I am used to hearing Wellborn paged out at least 2-3 times a week. I haven't heard from them in over three! I'd like not to be having a heart attack next to a volunteer fire dept and them not get paged out. Wake up Suwannee County, we DO NOT have adequate fire protection? 4 guys and two trucks from the nearest paid stations are NOT enough to fight a house fire!

Okay, now comes the Rave part. Regarding the change in address b/c someone in Suwannee County gave us the wrong address number: James M. Robinson, the 9-1-1 Addressing Manager, saw the R&R and called those of us impacted (very small number). He handled the situation very professionally and appropriately. THANK YOU for "fixing" this situation and your phone call. It is a pleasure to know he wasn't offended and acted upon the R&R in a more professional manner than I did! KUDOS Mr. Robinson.

Constuction cost overuns are not uncommon. Almost 50% is! If your home contractor did this, would you pay? Would your bank just tack it on the mortage? NO is a safe answer & "breach of contract" would be bandied about. can the BOCC just pass this on to you? Oh, the courts will pay for it. Great, who pays for the courts? Don't let 'em sweep this under the rug along with the bogus bond, Suwannee Landings, Lake Louise acess, the motocross park, on & on. It's gettin' mighty crowded under that old rug.

If "Project Christmas" is such a GOOD DEAL, why doesn't the present owner sell his land to them? ... Instead of selling it to the county which would in turn sell it (already developed) to "Project Christmas."  I'd bet my bottom dollar this will be another boon-doggle for the county commissioners to endure.  However, take note:  They will not lose a penny out of their pockets!  When will the commissioners learn that it is not their responsibility to speculate with tax payers' money????

While negotiations like project christmas require a level of security, the clique we call a gov't. here needs to be as open as possible. Don't make this some shady back room deal as is all too commonly done. Don't spend anymore of our $$ until a letter of intent is on the table, Try to control the incompetence & corruption for once. Despite the BOCC's firm belief that they know what is best for all & are always right, this ain't so! They rountinely ignore the "will of the people".

What's a TEACHER to do when a math question on her students' practice FCAT exam has no correct answer among those provided????

C'mon county commissioners! In a business, you have to give in order to receive. Approve the tax abatement and let Suwannee County grow! I guess one more generation has to die off before any progress can be made. Either that or voter turnout must increase from the 30% to the 60% percentile. The RULING CLASS must go!

Hey, it’s election season. It’s just started. Has anyone noticed all the political signs that are out on the public right of ways even though the statute forbids that? That includes fences around retention areas also. So let me get this straight. The guy who puts the most signs in the illegal places will get elected because more people will see his name. So I guess we’re going to elect the biggest law violator to the offices that are available. We need to fix this. Get the signs off the public right of way.
