6th grader will give back over spring break

Live Oak — During spring break, most kids are going on trips, having fun with friends or just kicking back for a week.

Not so for Live Oak resident Sarah Beth Lee. The sixth grader is going to be devoting her free time from school to helping others through the ministry of Love INC.

Lee, 11, said that in order to complete a project through her civics class she thought putting some time into the ministry would be beneficial for all concerned.

“I have to do a service project for FLVS (Florida Virtual School),” said Lee. “And I decided to do Love INC as my project.”

Sarah’s father, Jeff Lee, brought her by the Love INC open house that was held on March 12. The local ministry recently moved into a larger facility at 122 North Ohio Avenue and had an open house inviting others to come, and to present Certificates of Appreciation as a personal “thank you” for those who have helped them over the years.

Lee said she wanted to come to the open house to meet some of the people she would be working with and seeing during the spring break week which is March 25-29.

Lee said that she plans to work through spring break and then for school she’ll turn in a report of her time working.

“We have a worksheet that we have to fill out,” said Lee. “What we did during the day, what it was about, what the organization does.”

Lee said that she doesn’t know of anyone else that will be doing something quite like this.

Love INC Executive Director Lisa Kriehn wore a big smile on her face when she learned about her soon-to-be extra helper.

“I think it’s phenomenal that young kids are inspired to give back to the community,” said Kriehn. “It warms my heart.”

Kriehn said that Lee seemed very committed to the project and would be working with their Clearing House Coordinator, Diane Reagan. Some of the main functions of coordinator is getting different products in, getting them situated and then packing them up to be dispersed where needed.

“We at Love INC are willing to help any young kids who want to help,” said Kriehn. “We’ve always got things to do, like stocking the shelves.”
