Update: Details released in Jasper murder

Jasper — Statement from Lowndes County, Georgia Sheriff Chris Prine and Hamilton County, Florida Sheriff Harrell Reid:

On Monday, January 21, 2013 around 6:45 a.m. the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a deceased female lying in the a roadway on South West 44th Street, in rural Hamilton County. Investigation revealed that the victim, Pamela Provenzano, who was 61 years old, died as a result of murder. Investigators from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement immediately began investigating.

Investigators are now attempting to locate Daniel Lee Ovaert, a 79 year old white male who has been identified as a person of interest. Daniel Ovaert was last known to be driving a 1995 to 1997 model Lincoln Town Car with Georgia license plate number AVZ6464. The vehicle has a dent on the right rear quarter panel.

Anyone observing this vehicle should not approach the vehicle but instead immediately notify their local law enforcement agency. Information regarding this investigation should be directed to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office at {386} 792-1001 or the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at {229} 671-2985.

Investigators are not yet releasing how Provenzano was killed.
