Live Oak —
The FHP trooper who fatally shot 25-year-old Brent Blevins Sunday afternoon on US 90 East, Trooper Derek MacLaren, 33, returned to work today, Capt. Nancy Rasmussen, chief public information officer for FHP, said.
He returns after being placed on three days of administrative leave.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement spokesperson Gretl Plessinger told the Democrat Wednesday morning that the investigation into the fatal shooting could take up to three months.
Plessinger said the agency works on multiple cases at a time and that it all depends on how quickly they can finish up their investigation, but normally about two to three months, she said.
However, Plessinger said in some cases the investigation could be finished sooner, or later.
"It all depends on the situation," she said.
Blevins was fatally shot Sunday around 2:05 p.m. after a traffic stop on Blevins by MacLaren. It was reported Sunday that Blevins exited the vehicle holding a gun. He was reportedly shot between four and five times and died on route to a Gainesville hospital.
