Rant & Rave - Oct. 5, 2012

Live Oak — It is crazy how everyone is hooping and hollering about how we need jobs and lets mortgage the County for Klausner. Yet, we will all have to pay increased taxes the next ten years to repair all the roads that the lumber trucks tear-up. Seems to me like Harry C. Gray III (9/28/12 Letter to the Editor) is the only one that really knows what is going on here.

Moving the Finance Director under the City Clerk is a foolish move. Does this mean that anyone running for City Clerk “MUST” have an extensive finance background? What happens if they don’t and then they get elected? The Council is not thinking this one through.

****

wait and see, the move to put finance director under city clerk is a ploy to increase salary of city clerk

I cannot believe the County has spent all this money on Project Christmas, bought the land and now the company may not come here. Why wasn't the land purchase contingent upon the company locating here? Once again, the County spending money and not thinking. I think the Chamber should reimburse the County for all funds spent on this issue.

Instead of having the Finance Director report to the City Clerk, have her report to the Council. This way they are able to supervise her work to make sure things are being done correctly and not have to rely on others. This will also eliminate the raise that the city clerk will most certainly ask for with the new responsibilities.

Why has there been no announcement in regards to the two proposed liquor stores. One in the AT & T building and the other in the old meat market. Why would we put these so close to our schools? Please consider alternate locations and do not allow these to go through. I also like how the signs have been strategically place so as not to be noticed as you are passing them!

Check 1A for the story. In addition, legal notices were published on page 8B on Sept. 28 regarding the matter.  - Editor

While it is nice to learn the groundwater levels have returned to that of 2010, when is SRWMD going to take the necessary actions to get the groundwater levels back to that of the 1920s????  Only then will Suwannee Springs flow!

I find it interesting that Suwannee River Water Management District's Executive Director is preaching conservation, when she knows it has absolutely no effect on the groundwater level.

Recently, it was made public that the Southern Poverty Law Center had filed a complaint with the US Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights on behalf of the African-American students who have attended Suwannee County District Schools. According to the USDOE, OCR they have accepted this complaint and have requested the parties involved begin mediations on the issues in an effort to resolve the matter. In my opinion, if this community wishes to put this matter behind us it is imperative that the current School Superintendent and School Board Members not procrastinate in their efforts to address the matter.
Sincerely,
A Concern Parent of Student

Is the contract signed yet? ... Is the contract signed yet?  ... Is the contract signed yet?

Klausner is going to do what for the county?

Before you make any decisions about anything you need to look around you. Get the world news, pay attention. Know what’s going on, really what’s going on, not just what somebody is saying or what they’re doing. Open your eyes. Time is short.

Hi. I see Amendment 3 is going to be on the ballot. What about all the other amendments we’re going to be voting for? Can we please have our newspaper or somebody really specify what these amendments are we’re going to be voting for? Okay, public let’s get together and find out what we’re voting for and vote for the right things.

You can learn about the amendments in layman’s terms beginning on page 1A. - Editor

We need a strong America we need jobs created by coal, oil, gas. New highway systems; entrepreneurs, business people. We need American working. We are spending, borrowing and giving away too much money and the future generations are going to have to pay for it. I don’t know if this comment is allowed or not but I hope it is.
