Selleck to sing at Obama’s inauguration

Mayo — Lafayette High School 2010 graduate Emily Selleck will be performing with the Lee University Festival Choir at President Barack Obama’s inauguration on Jan. 21 in Washington, D.C.

Selleck is a junior at Lee University studying vocal performance and she tours with the Voices of Lee, an a cappella group directed by Danny Murray.

Lee University is a private university in Cleveland, Tenn. that provides liberal arts education in a Christ-centered environment. Their music program is world-renowned and they have toured extensively both in the US and abroad for 50 years in prestigious venues, such as Carnegie Hall, the World's Fair (NYC), the Kennedy Center, the White House, the Vatican and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France.

US Senator Lamar Alexander, on behalf of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, invited the choral group to sing at the swearing-in ceremonies that will take place mid-day on the upper west terrace of the United States Capitol. The 200-voice university choir consists of students chosen from the school's seven vocal ensembles and is led by Dean of the School of Music Dr. William R. Green.

Selleck is a member of the Alton Church of God in Mayo and says she is blessed to have been mentored by LHS teachers Dale Croft and Cathy Palomino.
