Lake City attorney Bill Brannon chosen by Democrats to run on Democratic ticket for Third Circuit state attorney

Tallahassee, Fla. — Bill Brannon formally announced today his candidacy for Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney. In accordance with rules set forth by the Florida Department of State, Democratic Executive Committees in Columbia, Dixie, Lafayette, Suwannee, Madison, Hamilton and Taylor selected Brannon to replace State Attorney Robert “Skip’’ Jarvis following Jarvis’ withdrawal from the race.

Statement from Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith:

“I’ve known Bill Brannon a long time and there is no better advocate for the people of north Florida. Along with his deep roots to the community, Bill would bring the respect of his peers and unparalleled legal experience to the job. As aformer State Attorney, I know firsthand the importance of this role and it is with that experience and understanding that I wholeheartedly back Bill for State Attorney.”

Statement from Candidate for Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney Bill Brannon:

"We deserve a State Attorney with the real world experience needed to protect the people of north Florida. I'm honored to accept this nomination, and I look forward to working with our community to ensure that justice is administered fairly and with the highest standards of accountability."

Background on Bill Brannon:

Bill Brannon has decades of experience, having worked in both private practice and as a Public Defender for the Third Judicial Circuit. From 2004 to 2010, Brannon was chosen by the Third Circuit Judges to serve as General Magistrate for the Third Circuit. Later, he served as the Executive Director of the State Attorney's Office. 

In addition to his vast legal experience, Brannon is actively involved in his community, having served on the Board of Directors of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, as President of the Columbia County March of Dimes, President of the Lake City Rotary Club, Chairman of the Columbia Planning and Zoning Board, and on the Judicial Nominating Committee for the Third Circuit.

Brannon is a graduate of Columbia High School, the University of Florida and Florida State University School of Law. He currently resides in Lake City with his wife Bobbi.
