Two crash party by shooting at crowd

Live Oak — A Suwannee County teen responded to being told to leave a party by firing multiple shots at the crowd, according to the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office.


No injuries were reported. 


According to SCSO, Quenton Rennard Owens, 19, of 16447 115th Road, McAlpin, and Derrick Denard Dantzler Jr., 20, of 624 Henry Street, Live Oak, were upset after being told they were not invited to a party on 52nd Street on Sunday, Aug. 26. 


Dantzler said they were upset because they were told to leave due to their skin color. The two reportedly returned later that night in a vehicle which Dantzler drove. Owens reportedly used a personal AR 15 rifle to shoot about 14 rounds at the crowd, striking no one but hitting about five vehicles.


One of the victims at the party had a bullet hole in the side of his shirt with what appeared to be an exit hole in the front. There were no visible injuries to the body, reports state.


Owens was located at 14309 Railroad Street and was read his miranda rights at 6 a.m., Aug. 27.
Owens said he “just shot at them to scare them”. 


Upon interviewing Owens, it was learned that he had gotten into an altercation the prior weekend at the same residence that was shot at.


Owens stated that there were about 15 rounds in the magazine prior to the shooting and when the weapon was located there was only one left in the magazine.


“Defendant then wrote out a written statement confessing to the crime,” reports state. “Defendant shot multiple .223 rounds from his AR 15 at approximately 30 plus subjects but only 19 were willing to fill out a statement.”


Owens and Dantzler were booked into the Suwannee County Jail. Owens faces 19 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Dantzler faces 19 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery domestic violence.
