Live Oak —
A Lake City woman was jailed for her involvement in the August 2012 death of her 18-month-old baby in September of 2012 following a lengthy investigation, according to Live Oak Police Det. Justin Bates.
Charlotte Taniki Edwards, 33, of 577 SE Saint Johns St., Lake City, reportedly violated a court order after she allowed the alleged killer of her baby to be around the infant while they were living in Live Oak.
Bates said that Edwards “had been court ordered not to have the child around” Henry Clarence Johnson, Live Oak.
Johnson was jailed Aug. 15 for felony murder and aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm.
According to Bates, LOPD officers responded around 8 p.m. on Aug. 7 to a residence in the 600 block of Webb Drive for the report of an unresponsive 18-month old.
“Upon arrival officers determined that evening the victim became unresponsive for an unknown reason. EMS responded to the scene and transported the child to Shands Live Oak Regional Medical Center where the child was pronounced dead,” Bates reported.
Detectives were then called to the scene for further investigation.
“After a lengthy investigation by LOPD and state attorney investigators, it was determined the child had been killed at the hands of a live-in boyfriend,” Bates reported.
That boyfriend is said to be Johnson, Bates said.
“It was determined the child was left in the care of (Johnson) ... by the child’s mother,” Bates said.
Bates reported that during that time, Johnson physically abused the child that ultimately resulted in the child’s death.
Johnson is still in custody at the Suwannee County Jail.
Edwards was arrested Friday, March 8 and faces charges of neglect of child resulting in great bodily harm.
