Friday car crash leads to DUI arrest

Live Oak — A Live Oak man was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol Friday for driving under the influence after striking several road signs and a power pole with his vehicle, the FHP reported.

Harold Lee Davis, 60, 17913 16th St., Live Oak, was arrested on May 18, after an early morning car crash on CR 249, north of Live Oak.

According to FHP records, Davis was involved in a single vehicle crash, when he struck several road signs and a power pole. He then reportedly left the scene and continued traveling north on CR 249, authorities say. Records show that a witness observed Davis’s vehicle and called the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office while following the vehicle.

Authorities say that Davis turned his vehicle around and began traveling south in the northbound lane of the highway and was observed by deputies from the SCSO, who activated their emergency equipment. According to reports, Davis’s vehicle then drifted onto the right shoulder of the road and struck a tree. Records show that Davis continued to accelerate his vehicle until he was removed from the vehicle by deputies. He was then checked and released by Suwannee County Fire/Rescue, authorities say.

When FHP began the investigation at the scene, a moderate odor of alcohol was detected on Davis and he admitted that he had been drinking, reports show.

According to reports, Davis appeared confused and disorientated and was slow to respond to questions. He was administered a series of field sobriety tests that he failed to perform, authorities say.

Records from the SCSO show that Davis was arrested on two counts of DUI property damage and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
