Jasper —
The 24th Annual Quilt Show and Sale sponsored by the Stephen Foster Citizen’s Support Organization and the Lady of the Lake Quilting Guild, brought thousands out to Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park throughout the weekend of Oct. 19-21.
Nearly 200 quilts of all shapes, sizes and colors were on display throughout the park and participants came from many surrounding communities in Hamilton, Suwannee and Columbia counties, as well as from other states, including Georgia and New York.
The theme this year was “Nature’s Blessings” and as suggested, many of the quilts were designed to connect folks to the natural treasures, majestic surroundings and tranquil setting along the historic Suwannee River in White Springs.
The event, as always, was the perfect place to shop, display and/or sell a wide assortment of quilts. For many it was simply a time to show off their quilting skills and treasures.
Aside from the beautiful quilts, there were also boutiques, quilting supply vendors, demonstrations, lectures and door prizes. Relay for Life had a booth set up just outside the museum helping to raise awareness about cancer. One food vendor near the auditorium was dishing out Philly cheesesteak sandwiches one after the next. It was the crowd favorite.
The kids weren’t forgotten, either, as they entered their own quilts at the children’s Garden Party on Saturday.
Best of Show went to Ann Opgenorth of White Springs for her quilt titled “Reflections”. Judges Choice was Marcia Kazmierski from Lake City for her “Provence” quilt.
The judges were so impressed with all the children’s entries that each one of them tied for 1st place.
Mark your calendar now for next year’s show, which will take place Oct. 18-20, 2013.
