Obituary - Wyndell Edward Mathis

Jasper — Wyndell Edward Mathis, age 53, of Cherokee, North Carolina and former Jasper, FL. resident, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina following a very brief illness. Wyndell was born on June 5, 1959 to Louie and Thelma Denmark Mathis. Wyndell was a longtime resident of Hamilton County and worked at the Hamilton County Jail in the control room. Wyndell felt called into the ministry and began to take speaking engagements which led into his being a lay pastor. For the past seven months he and his wife lived in Cherokee where they managed a motel and spread the gospel. Wyndell was predeceased by his father Louie.

Survivors include his wife Verda Sadler Mathis; two daughters, Charity Michelle Eaker, Lake City, FL. and Lacy Mathis, Cherokee, N.C.; his mother, Thelma Mathis of Jasper; one brother, Richard Wayne Mathis, Mississippi; two sisters, Sheree Mathis, Jennings, FL. and Donna Kay Blanton, Wellborn, FL.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 1, 2012 at Jasper Assembly of God Church in Jasper at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
