Moffses: Extra security in works at HamCo schools

Jasper — Hamilton County School Superintendent Tom Moffses said that his administration is in the process of implementing added safety and security measures in all schools.

“We've been working with emergency management since I came on board with regard to safety issues at all the schools in Hamilton County,” said Moffses.

The tragic event at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. and the resultant safety and security measures all schools are now implementing, Moffses said, fell in line with what he has already been implementing at the schools in Hamilton County.

Extra security measures in the works at the high school include re-deploying metal detectors. Moffses has been reviewing safety and security measures at all elementary schools as well. Single entry and exit points have been established and the possibility of installing cameras at these points is being considered.

Additionally, another item of discussion is keeping those single entry/exit doors locked and all who wish to enter will be buzzed in after clearance from school personnel.

“The safety and security of our kids is paramount,” said Moffses.
