Live Oak —
The Live Oak Community Redevelopment Agency has five goals for the upcoming year. This vision is is not as broad as the 2010 plan from the University of Florida. And that is a good thing.
The UF plan was vast and a little overwhelming. The goals from the CRA are doable and need to be followed through.
Warren Street’s problem will be half solved as soon as the buildings come down and the sinkhole is remedied. Once that is complete, planning can take place on where the city wants to go from there.
This brings us to parking. That will leave plenty of space for downtown parking. However, one big parking lot won’t be easy on the eye. Has the CRA thought of an open air market in that space?
The clock tower and message board at City Hall has been needed for years. Most of know where City Hall is, because we have lived here for some time. Others, and visitors, might have a hard time finding it.
The sidewalk construction on Helvenston Street will help connect Heritage Park and Gardens to the rest of the city and downtown directional signs will add to the charm of the city.
Here is what we would like to see: More aesthetically looking trees downtown; more community interaction in the streets (open air market); bulb-outs on street corners; less noticeable utility services such as power lines and power poles and cleaner neighborhoods and streets.
