Live Oak —
The Suwannee River Water Management District eliminated six positions as part of a reorganization on Monday, Sept. 17, according to District Executive Director Ann Shortelle.
In a statement to the Democrat Shortelle reported that the reorganization was completed so the District can better meet its core missions: water supply, water quality, flood protection and natural systems and to “enable hiring in core mission positions of greater need.”
Shortelle explained that the new organization consists of five divisions: water supply, water resources, land acquisition and management, resource management and administration.
Shortelle stated that the District anticipates hiring in the near future new positions of greatest technical need. It is not yet known how many new positions will be created, but the majority of those are expected to be those with an engineer and science background. Some of the positions will be posted to the District’s website, http://www.srwmd.state.fl.us/, Monday. The positions will also be advertised in this newspaper.
“The restructuring of the District will ensure that the agency’s core missions are achieved, while maintaining a fiscally sound budget,” said Shortelle. “Despite these responsible changes, the District has retained highly qualified engineers, scientists and staff with dozens of years of experience dedicated to water issues in our District.”
