Pioneer Days - Granny and Pappy to be crowned Oct. 8

Mayo — Jackie and Bill Hart, the 2012 Pioneer Days Granny and Pappy, were recently chosen and are looking forward to all the festivities, beginning with the crowning, which will be held Monday, Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Lafayette County Courthouse in downtown Mayo.

The Pioneer Days Festival is coming up Oct. 12-13.

Jackie and Bill are natives of Mayo and both have had impressive careers in the field of education. Jackie received her master’s degree from Florida State University and Bill received his master’s from Valdosta State University. They began their teaching careers in 1955. Jackie taught early childhood development at Lafayette Elementary School and Bill was the principal there from 1975 to 1995.

Jackie retired in 1993 and Bill followed two years later in 1995.

The Hart’s have three daughters, Joan Carpenter (& William), Francene Folsom (& Andy), and Joycelyn Cook, who have given them eight grandchildren.

Congratulations go out to Jackie and Bill Hart, the 2012 Pioneer Day Granny and Pappy.
