Live Oak — Dorothy Bernice Cobean

Sept. 23, 2012

Dorothy Bernice Cobean, 85, of Branford, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sept. 23, 2012, in Sanford, Fla. Born in Clarks, Louisiana to Leroy and Louise Sanders, Mrs. Cobean, known to most as Bernice, possessed exceptional warmth and generosity. She was an extraordinary wife to her husband of 66 years, Samuel Wilson Cobean. As a military wife, Bernice lived in Hawaii, Massachusetts, California, Newfoundland, Spain and Texas before settling in Sanford and finally on the Suwanee River in Hatchbend, Fla. Bernice loved nature and enjoyed travels to the west, spending many summers on Lake Powell. Bernice dedicated her life as a homemaker, devoted mother and was respected and adored by her children.  The loving relationship she and Sam shared was the envy of all who knew or met them. She is survived by her beloved husband and three children: Paula Cobean, Robert Samuel Cobean, both of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and Jo Cobean (Robert) Simonini of Sanford, Fla. Mrs. Cobean is the grandmother of Gentry Bernice (Danny) Logan, Corey David Brown, Cheyenn Catherine Cobean, Alex Samuel Cobean, and Thomas Robert Cobean. A celebration of her life will be held at The Hatch Bend Baptist Church, 3029 SE County Road 500, Branford, FL 32008 on Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. Her husband and family are grateful for the exceptional care and comfort Mrs. Cobean received and are requesting memorial donations be made in her honor to Haven Hospice, 6037 U.S. 90 Lake City, Fla. 32055.
