Live Oak —
It’s that time of year again for the most talked about political rally of the season, the Suwannee Democrat’s Last Word rally where voters will have an opportunity to hear the platforms of their candidates.
The Last Word will be held at the Suwannee High School auditorium on Thursday, Aug. 2, at 6:30 p.m. The event will showcase about 30 candidates, both local and state, as they articulate their views, highlight their qualifications and tell the voters why they want to represent them.
Speaking time will be limited to three minutes for each candidate and because of the number of candidates speaking and time limitations, unopposed candidates will not be able to speak at the rally.
The event, which is sponsored by the Suwannee Democrat, is free of charge and is the largest rally of its type in the county. The evening will be emceed by Live Oak’s Brant Helvenston.
"This is by far the biggest political rally in the county of the season," Democrat Editor Jeff Waters said. "Candidates know this as well. I would encourage anyone who wishes to know anything about local politics to be there.”
This event will be the perfect opportunity for the August primary candidates to make their final plea to the voters. More importantly, it will offer undecided voters the opportunity to listen to the candidates and choose who they feel will best serve them.
Free T-shirts will be given to the first 150 registered voters who attend.
