Jasper —
All three Hamilton County Public Libraries participated in Florida Library Snapshot Day, joining libraries across Florida in taking pictures and collecting statistics and patrons’ comments showing how Floridians are utilizing their libraries.
The White Springs Public Library held their Library Snapshot Day on Thursday, Jan. 31. Events for the day included Preschool Storytime at 10 a.m., and Fun Days at 3 p.m.
Florida Library Snapshot Day in White Springs last Thursday was a tale of two libraries; the old and the new. The old library was a scene of near empty shelves and feelings of anticipation as library personnel looked forward to occupying their new digs just a couple blocks up the street. Snapshot Day activities, however, proceeded as planned amid the mild chaos.
As personnel were packing up at the old library, Librarian Tracy Woodard and Suwannee River Regional Library Director Betty Lawrence were busy little bees unloading boxes of books, tapes, CD's and other library materials onto the shiny new bookshelves at the new White Springs Public Library-Potash Corp Building.
The historic Camp family School House that currently sits across the street from the mayor's house is slated to be moved over to the new library grounds as was requested by the Camp family who donated the land where the new library now sits.
The official ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony will take place on Sunday, Feb. 10, from 2-4 p.m. The first official day of business will be Monday, Feb. 11, from 1-6 p.m.
Stephen House, a regular patron at the old library said, “I’m glad they’re opening a new library.”
House said he will probably be spending a lot more time in the new library once it opens.
Hours at the new library will be the same as they were previously, which is Monday through Friday from 1-6 p.m. On Thursdays, the library is also open from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, and on weekends they will be closed.
For more information contact Tracy Woodard by phone at 386-397-1389, by fax at 386-397-4460, or via e-mail at twoodard@neflin.org.
The Florida Library Association (FLA), in partnership with the Division of Library and Information Services is collecting the results and will be posting them on the FLA website where everyone can see these powerful stories.
One library’s pictures and statistics may be small, but when the results from the entire state are combined, or even just a regional area, they impart quite an impact. You can view the results from last year’s Florida Library Snapshot Day at http://www.flalib.org/snapshot_day_results_nov_2011.php
