Rant & Rave - March 8, 2013

Live Oak — The Suwannee County School Board votes in March on whether to reconfigure or not. This is everyones last chance to call their School Board Member and give their opinion. Remember they are here to serve us so please let them know how you think they should vote!

****

Why not keep the public library open until 8:00 or 9:00 PM during the weekdays? It would be a convenient time for those of us who work during the present hours of operation. You could adjust the hours and open later which would allow a later closing time. The name says public library and this would make it more accessible for the public.

NEEDED: ONE RED LIGHT LEADING TO HIGHWAY 51 COMING FROM THE NEW CUT THROUGH ROAD BY THE FIRST FEDERAL SPORTS COMPLEX. THIS WOULD ALLOW FOR A SMOOTHER TRAFFIC FLOW ESPECIALLY DURING PEAK HOURS BEFORE SCHOOL AND AFTER SCHOOL. THIS IS FOR YOUR SAFETY!!!!!

Thank you Randy Harris for not letting employees hide on rainy days but sent them home and had them work on sunny days, my road actually got graded while conditions were good. Now how about parking some of those county trucks going home. I have to buy my own gas to drive to work.

****

Thank you Randy Harris for the job you are doing for Suwannee County. I can name 3 high salaried positions you have not filled that saves us a taxpayers more than $200,000 per year. But watch out you are not one of the good ol' boys so they will be out to get rid of you and place one of their own in.

All of the people complaining who voted these big spenders in and are now reaping the bill for it stop complaining. You have your change to vote them out and instead voted them i in. You were scared to vote the people in who actually cared about the county and the people instead of their pocket. So suck it up and pay the bill. Maybe next time things will change.

It was interesting to see and hear what was presented at the town meetings to discuss the school reconfiguration. I don't think at any of the three meetings any negatives of three pre-k through fifth grades were mentioned. Now really, Mr. Scarborough, do you and your school board not think we have brains?

****

During these uncertain financial times, why do we even entertain the notion to reconfigure the existing primary, elementary, and intermediate schools. All the moving and work it would place upon teachers, just when do you think teachers would do this? Due to many meetings in August t here would be NO time to do this either

****

Why can't the city of Live Oak have a nice July 4th celebration like Branford and Lake City? It would be so nice to have some fireworks and patriotic music as well.

Suwannee Baseball is in "full swing." Come on out and enjoy a game and see Coach Terry Mixon and his team showcase their playing skills. GO SUWANNEE BULLDOG VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM!!!!!!

There should be no secrets with Klaus. We have a right to know. Suwannee County cannot afford this. We need to unite and take a stand together.

Responding to prior rants! I'm disabled, Post Office access is very difficult for me. Only way it would be improved if someone well known with money complained.

If the illegals returned to their country, there still would be many unemployed people, due to the fact, I've never seen a US Citizen doing the hard jobs illegals do!

It's demons who complain of demons in other cars. Bless your heart!

It simply amazes me that the superintendent of schools would even bring up reconfiguration when we are in such a financial shortfall and haven’t been able to give even cost of living raises to school board employees for the past four years. What are you thinking? It is past time for a change in the leadership of our schools!

****

The superintendent clearly states that his reconfiguration project will only cost $102,000. In 2009, the projected reconfiguration cost was $380,000. In 2003, the cost to actually reconfigure two schools was $180,000. Now, 10 years later Mr. Scarborough says that it can be done for the mere cost of $102,000. Hypothetically, what will happen when the cost exceeds the projected $102,000? Does reconfiguration stop? Of course not! It continues with our school system left to pay the price of his mistake. The fact that either money was wasted in the reconfiguration of 2003 or the superintendent’s price is now not valid. Either way, in the present economy this latest reconfiguration attempt is not a wise decision nor is it a realistic option. We can only hope that the school board listens to the wise members of the community that have the facts correct. Our community leaders are to be praised for their commitment to our children.
