Friday night football - SHS, BHS previews

Live Oak — Bulldogs

Season opener

Suwannee (0-0) at

Madison County (0-0)

When: Friday, Aug. 31

Time: 7:30

Location: Dog Pound, Paul Langford Stadium, Live Oak

Radio: 98.1 FM

This is the season opener for both teams. Suwannee High School head football coach Jamie Rodgers said “We have to fix the mistakes we made last Friday night. We can’t turn the ball over. We have to limit the penalties and we must try to match their physicality.”
This is Rodgers first year at the helm of Suwannee High School football. The ‘Dogs fell to Ft. White in the kickoff classic but Rodgers said that allowed them to look at areas of improvement. He said there are some things the team did really well in the classic and some they didn’t.
Rodgers takes over from a 2011 record of 1-9. It’s Rodgers’ hope to put together a winning season, which would be the first for the Bulldogs since 2007. This should be a tough match against powerhouse Madison County who defeated the ‘Dogs every year since at least 2004. The Cowboys have won two, 2A state championships since 2001.

Buccaneers

Season opener

Branford (0-0) at

Seven Rivers Christian (0-0)

When: Friday, Aug. 31

Time: 7:30

Location: Buccaneer Stadium

This is the season opener for both teams. Branford High School head football coach Roy Harden said one of Seven Rivers' best running backs is returning this season. Seven Rivers did not play a spring or a fall game this years, so coach Harden only has last season as a point of reference. "They are returning their best running back from last season. We'll definitely have to focus on him a little bit," Harden said. Harden said his goal for the team is to become more physical. They are also working on their passing, and the fundamental skills of blocking and tackling. Branford lost to Seven Rivers Christian last year 20-14.
