Live Oak —
Live Oak City Administrator Joe Miranti resigned Monday morning after just a few short weeks on the job. Miranti resigned via a memorandum to all five council members and Mayor Sonny Nobles. The resignation was effectively immediately.
In the memorandum Miranti cited city policy regarding his lack of authority to terminate department heads.
He wrote that he wasn’t aware until after being hired that the city council retained the right to terminate a department head by a majority vote at a meeting and not the administrator.
“How can the city administrator be required to supervise, give direction to, conduct annual evaluation of, and discipline, but not have the authority to terminate department heads,” Miranti asked in his memorandum.
Miranti was hired as city administrator in December.
