Mayor to act as interim city administrator

Live Oak — The Live Oak City Council voted unanimously to choose Mayor Sonny Nobles to be the interim city administrator after the council  voted to part ways with former City Administrator Bob Farley on Tuesday.

The decision was made at an emergency meeting Thursday night at City Hall.

The city will begin advertising the position in an effort to find the right candidate, but something had to be done to fill the gap until the position is permanently filled.

“I think everyone on this board can agree that we’re always looking for ways to save money,” board member Bennie Thomas stated. “I think our best option is to let someone who is already hired by the city to fill the vacancy, instead of hiring someone for just a short time.”

Councilman John Yulee and Thomas both supported the idea of Nobles fulfilling the duties until the position can be filled.

Board member Keith Mixon shared with the panel that he had recently had a phone conversation with the mayor and that he agreed to fulfill the duties, but only temporarily.

After further discussion, the board voted unanimously in favor of the mayor carrying out the tasks of city administrator.
