The Scarecrow festival is coming to Live Oak again this year and is geared to be an exciting event for the whole family.
This year, the festival will include more activities for children than in years past. Children will be able to participate in building a scarecrow, face painting, an obstacle course, a quarterback blitz and a floating ball shoot-out. All activities for the children are free of charge.
Businesses should begin decorating and stuffing those scarecrows for the scarecrow competition. Applications can be obtained at historicliveoak.com.
The Garden Club on 11th Street will get things started On Oct. 27 with their popular pancake breakfast and plant sale, along with many other activities.
“Puttin’ On The Dog,” a pet costume contest sponsored by the Democrat, will begin with registration at 10 a.m. and judging at 11 a.m. at Millennium Park. Learn more here.
The Woman’s Club will once again be putting on their chili cook-off at Veterans Park with cooking beginning at 10 a.m., and the dishes judged at 11 a.m.
Live entertainment will be provided by the Herold White Band.
“The Scarecrow Festival is aimed at Families, good fun entertainment for the entire family. We have people come from Tallahassee with their children because the children's activities are free, and there are lots of them,” said Jeanne d'Eauédè with the Live Oak Partnership. “All of the other festivals are focused on business and the Partnership feels this festival raises awareness that Suwannee County is a family oriented community, a place that values families.”
The festival began as a small community event sponsored by the Live Oak Garden Club. Businesses and residents built scarecrows to display in downtown Live Oak in Millennium Park. Through the years, this event has grown into a downtown tradition for Live Oak. This festival now includes the participation of several local groups and businesses in conjunction with The Live Oak Partnership.
