Rant & Rave - Oct. 26, 2012

Live Oak — Why is it every year the city has to decide when to celebrate Halloween? It is October 31! This year it is on a Wednesday, why the need to decide about a Wednesday? Sunday ya ya ok the church people think if it falls on a Sunday oooo bad can't celebrate it then. Church people associate Halloween as a bad day so don't celebrate it on a Sunday but heck any other day is fine for us church going people to celebrate it. Sounds hypocritical to me.

Halloween is NeXt Week. We Have A VERY Serious Problem with "GOLF CARTS." I have Almost Broad-Sided "CHILDREN" as young as 8 to 10 years old Driving a Golf Cart at Night,2 Different Times. White Street & Westmoreland is Golf Cart Central. The Golf Carts Have Zero Reflectors,Zero Safety Lights & Zero Light Colored or Reflective Clothing. Last Halloween A Small Farm Tractor With NOT ONE SAFETY LIGHT On It Pulled Up "Loaded With Children" Trick or Treating. The Tractor Was Pulling a Wagon Filled With Children Sitting on Hay. With Families Getting In & Out of Cars & Their Eyes Not Having Adjusted to the Dark. IT's a Matter of Time Before a Child Is Killed. Or Worse a Golf Cart Full of Children ARE ALL KILLED. "STOP This Madness..."

Just stop it about liquor stores! Downtown is a ghost town, empty storefronts everywhere. If the location meets the requirements, you got to let people open a business & earn money, more lawsuits at taxpayer expense, more double standards. Folks voted 2-1 to go wet, shut up & get on with it.

Suwannee county does not need more jobs; we need people who want jobs and not just a paycheck. My husband and I were told not to come here becuase there were no jobs. My husband went to town and came home with three jobs the first day and he has always had a job. We have lived here forty years. Those who really want a job can find one.

Wow! I guess we're cleaning house at the Ole' Town hall! Booted the Manager, kicking OMI to the dirty curb and who knows what's next! We keep pretending to be Donald Trump and firing everyone, there won't be any one left for the Council to run roughshod over. YOU'RE FIRED!

I want to thank the wonderful people who came to my home on Friday Oct 12 to try to help my husband. The Paramedics, sheriff deputies, fire department. They were tireless in their attempt to save my husband. They're kindness and respect will forever be in my heart and I wish I knew each one's name so I could tell each personally thank you and God Bless you all. I am so Blessed to have moved to this wonderful town.

I think it is stupid that the majority of citizens of this County voted to go Wet, yet now when a zoning request is made everyone is up in arms. Each of the "commercial" locations just denied zoning were perfect locations. Once again, Suwannee County can't stand progress.

I live on this planet TOO! The garbage left on the road sides from the parade and after the football game is disgusting. As a communnity it is disgracful. It is not hard to dispose of your trash properly. ALL IT TAKES IS PERSONAL RESPONSAPILTY.

Branford football stadium and parking lot looks like a pig-stye after the game. There are waste bins people, use them! I asked why not use the kids in school suspension being sent out there to tidy up? Reply was it would demean them...geezopete, they are in trouble, maybe public humiliation would turn them around. Oh no, wouldn't want to scar their little psyche.

I authored a rant published aug. 17th about the poor sprtsmanship/behavior of locals attending/participating in school sponsered sporting events and no one has refuted or denied my statemets. I did attend a couple sporting events just to see if any difference has been made. The answer... NOPE! At a volleyball game, cursing froomstudent age children wondering through te gym disrupting play on the court was just one behavior seen. At a football game, cursing, smoking, sexual behavior way beyond appropriate for thier ages, all while law enforcement and faculty members turn a blind eye. Last year at a soccer tpurnament in Gainesville sportsmanship so poor I was embarrassed to be in the area. Players clearly attempting to injure opponents, a coach who refused to control them and parents who encouraged the behavior. Hold your head high Suwannee sports fans. If you're going to encourage this behavior by doing nothing about it, you might as well be proud.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just get rid of The Big Three (Mixon, Prins and Grantham) and keep Farley?

I check the paper before shelling out my $$$, no Rant & Rave, no sale. The informed opinions are vital, especially at election time. The others are absurd, but funny. It's the only column worth 50+ cents! If space is the issue, maybe cut back on photo coverage of spilt gas at the dollar store!

Rave to the lady that works the dump at 90 and 49, she does a great job. Keeps it clean .

I would love to know the exact reason why there are several roads, especially the ones that are located in town in busy areas, that are still not repaired from TS Debbie. The closure of roads in the neighborhood of Houston Ave. are causing severely congested traffic on 11th St. in the morning and this is a great concern.Thank you.
