Live Oak —
If you’ve gone outside in the last couple of days, you’ll have noticed a chill in the air. The cause was brought on by Post Tropical Cyclone Sandy, as it collided with a cold front that simultaneously moved along the eastern part of the US.
“This week will be dominated by cooler winds from the northwest by Sandy,” said Jason Hess,” meteorologist with the National Weather Service out of Jacksonville. “Most of the week, air will be cooler, relatively more like winter.”
Sandy affected the East Coast first as a hurricane, causing New York City to all but shut down. The storm was so large that every state east of the Mississippi River was affected somehow by Sandy, whether that be by rain or wind, such as in our area.
Sandy was expected Tuesday to move WNW at 15 mph with sustained winds at 65 mph. Its present center was near New Jersey.
According to Hess, Tuesday morning for Suwannee County will be breezy and it will feel like about 30 degrees as the winds are sometimes between 30 and 35 mph, but later during the day, temperatures will rise into the mid-60s.
Nighttime is when the temperatures will take the big plunge with little to no fluctuation.
As Sandy moves on, so will the wind and the bitter temperatures.
“Sandy’s system will cause the winds to die down at the end of the week,” said Hess. “By the end of the week, it should be more like normal temperatures again with highs in the mid-70s.”
With no accumulation of frost, there should be no worries for those concerned about their outside pets and plants this week.
