Live Oak —
Now showing at city hall
There is a dark cloud in Live Oak and it seems to be hovering over city hall.
We’re not exactly sure what’s going on over there.
The mayor and the council president are at each other’s throats over a written statement from the fire chief.
The city’s fire department union is at odds with the city over sick pay and how it should be accumulated. Leaders of the union even stood before the city councilors and said they "violated" their contract.
With words like “bullied”, “grave concern” and others coming from city hall, it’s clear what we need now.
Real leadership.
We could get behind the city administrator. But there isn’t one.
What should happen is the installation of a city manager, which would require a vote of the electorate. So be it. With all we have witnessed we are sure the voters would stand behind it.
Get the city where it needs to be and allow a city manager to oversee the daily operations of the city, including employees. The council has too much on their plates without having to manage the employees as well, like ensuring the city coffers are managed well and policy making for this multi-million dollar organization.
Let’s leave the theatrics to Suwannee High School, who, we’re told, should have a killer performance tonight and tomorrow (See below).
Now, on with the real show
You won’t want to miss the Suwannee High School Drama Troupe’s version of the Tony Award & Pulitzer Prize winning musical comedy, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”
We’re told Troupe Director Emily Bass and her young talent are sure to keep a smile on your face and keep your feet stomping.
It’s time for a break, folks, from the negative. Get out and spend a few bucks on what really matters, the kids.
The show begins tonight at 7 p.m. There will be another presentation Saturday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $7 at the door or can be bought from any drama troupe member or Emily Bass, director/drama teacher.
