Bulldogs coach looking forward to district match

Has sights on Columbia County Nov. 9 and next season

Live Oak — Suwannee Bulldogs head coach Jamie Rodgers is in his first year of coaching the football team and has already seen some success.

The team sits on a record of 3-5 as they go into Friday night's last district game against Rickards. Last season under a different head coach the team went 1-9 on the season.

Coach Rodgers said they have found a plan that has proven successful so far and will stick to it.

“We will treat this week like we have the previous eight weeks. We have a plan of what it takes to prepare and we will stick to it,” said Rodgers. “We have made some huge strides in our program this year and a win against a district opponent would be another building block for our future.”

Rodgers said once the season is over, its back to training and hitting the weights to get the student-athletes ready for next season.

“That is what will help us going forward, our kids getting themselves ready to compete in the off season,” said Rodgers. “This is the biggest factor for our future success.”

Suwannee has one of toughest districts around facing quite arguably two of the best teams in 5A - Wakulla and Godby.

“We have our last district game of the year this week against Rickards (4-4). They are a much improved football team over the last few years,” said Rodgers. “They have a new coach that has come in and done a great job with some very talented kids.”

Rodgers said the kids have learned to play hard for each entire football game this season.

“It wasn’t like that at the beginning of the year but it is now,” said Rodgers. “That is what I am most proud of looking back at year one thus far.”

The Bulldogs are in Tallahassee Friday night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
