State rep. appointed to 5 committees

Live Oak — State Representative District 10, Elizabeth Porter, R-Lake City, is pleased to announce that Speaker Will Weatherford has appointed her to the following committees for the upcoming term in the Florida House of Representatives. The Democrat asked Rep. Porter what these new positions entailed.

In addition, Porter and State Senator Charlie Dean, R-Inverness, will hold their legislative delegation hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Live Oak City Hall on White Avenue in Live Oak.

“These hearings will provide our fellow citizens the opportunity to express their concerns, share legislative ideas and have personal input into the legislative process,” said Porter.

Any member of the public wishing to address the delegation, please contact Koby Adams in Rep. Porter’s office at 386-719-4600 or koby.adams@myfloridahouse.gov to be placed on the agenda. Appearance cards will be available at the hearing for anyone who wishes to be heard.

Education Committee - Vice Chair

“This is the full committee over Choice and Innovation, Higher Education, and K-12 Subcommittees,” said Porter.  “All proposed bills that pass through those subcommittees are eventually heard by the Education Committee and must pass in this committee before being heard on the floor during session.”

Economic Development and Tourism Subcommittee - Vice Chair

“The Economic Development and Tourism Subcommittee considers matters related to economic and community development, workforce development, unemployment compensation, tourism, affordable housing, growth management and emergency management,” said Porter.

Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee

“This considers matters related to Florida's agriculture and citrus industries, environmental protection, and the conservation of Florida's natural resources, said Porter. “It includes issues related to water quality and supply.”

Transportation and Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee

“It prepares the budget of the following departments for submittal to the full Appropriations Committee,” said Porter. “It includes The Dept. of Transportation, Dept. of State, the Dept. of Economic Opportunity, Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, and the Department of Military Affairs.”

K-12 Education Subcommittee

“This addresses topics pertaining to public schools, grades K-12,” said Porter. “Specifically, the subcommittee considers issues related to compliance with and implementation of Federal law, student curriculum, conduct and attendance requirements, and student performance and services.”

Porter said the appointments will provide our district with a voice on committees that directly affect our area.
“I am pleased with the leadership’s confidence in me and our continued commitment to work hard to help create an environment that will bring good jobs to this district,” said Porter.

Committee meetings began this week.
